Don't Be Discouraged; Live Your Spectacular Life!

I was diagnosed back in 1997 when not much was known about Turner syndrome. I did receive a prenatal diagnosis while doctors were looking for a heart defect my father had. Because not much was known, and what was known was not good, doctors gave me a very poor prognosis and my parents were told to abort me.

I grew up in a very loving and supporting family. I want to take a moment to speak to the parents out there, thank you, I can't imagine how terrifying it is to have someone tell you something is "wrong" with your baby.

Throughout my childhood I did many different activities. I was never the most athletic person, but I did love gymnastics. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with it since we moved around a lot for my dad's job. I also got frustrated easily if I stopped getting better, and I had stopped getting better at gymnastics.

One thing I always was drawn to was performing. I loved, and still love, singing and acting and that ended up being what I kept with throughout high school. I graduated high school with a 3.9 GPA and got a scholarship to attend the Honors College at my university. I am currently a pre-medical student and am in the process of applying to medical school.

I just want to say to all the girls out there that no matter how frustrated you get, no matter how much you might not feel like you are good enough; you are. Every person is unique. Don't be discouraged if academics aren't a strength; just pursue what makes you happy. You were put on this Earth for a reason. You have already beaten odds that so many don't, so live your spectacular life.
